About

Olivia Hou

Hello! I'm a 21-year old book-lover and art enthusiast from Canada who'd rather do nothing but stay home and read! Sometimes I feel like I have been raised by books rather than people. Some of my most unforgettable memories of my childhood are as follows: reading The Awakening by Kelly Armstrong in the dark using a mini flashlight, reading City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare way past my bedtime on a school night in middle school, becoming discovered and having my book confiscated/hidden, reading during a piano recital and subsequently forgetting my piece (what persisted after that was a lot of nagging and a book ban), receiving a package under the name "Olivia Herondale" because I was absolutely infatuated with Will Herondale from Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices, and having more books in my suitcase than practical needs during my trips to China. I devoured books.

Books are still buds, but I've become much more experimental and varied in my interests. In my free time, I'll draw, try to learn a Chopin piece, watch a drama, run my Etsy shop, go to the gym, play tennis/soccer and listen to some good music (which has no specificity of any sort either, from kpop, classical, hip hop, pop, OSTs, movie soundtracks...). I'd love to save up to travel one day if only I could overcome my fundamental flaw in impulsive spending!! (I guess I will do that through books for now. )

My favourite authors these days are Oscar Wilde and Pierce Brown. I even wrote my IB extended essay on Victorian morality, aestheticism, and hedonism in The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.

If you have any questions about me or the blog, or want to say hi, just leave a comment, or send me a tweet/email. I don't bite!

  4. I really like your blog!
    It's simply chic :D
And I also get a little miffed when people return my books and there are folds on the cover or cracks on the spine.
Unless I'm the one who made them :))
